Wednesday, 13 November 2013

Police arrested 57 Chadian and Ethiopian expatriates late Sunday night following a clash between the two communities in Jeddah’s Aziziah district.
Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, Jeddah Police spokesman, said trouble erupted when a group of Ethiopians picked up a quarrel with some Chadians and a stone fight ensued.
He said police intervened before the situation spiraled out of control.
“No one was injured in the rioting but 14 cars were damaged in the stone-throwing fight,” Al-Bouq said.
“Several teams of police patrols rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control; 57 miscreants were arrested,” he said, adding that the arrested illegals were shifted to the northern police office for further investigations.
Al-Bouq said that the campaign against illegal workers would continue as scheduled.
“We are getting excellent cooperation from citizens in our operation against illegals,” he said.
The officer also warned people against gathering in locations where inspection campaigns are in progress. People gathering in such places would be exposing themselves to unpleasant situations, he said.
He reminded the public to give way to and not hinder security officers who are performing their duties.
